Is there a nightlife, or anything like that? Overall, how is it socially?

I am a freshman in college and my goal in life is to teach college music but i will be working with high school and junior high before hand. How can i prepare now to be a good teacher then? I mean there are the obvious, go to class, learn your stuff, but how can i make sure that i am teaching maybe more than just quarter notes and music terms?
