What happens if you apply for your BFA in art school and your portfolio isn’t accepted?

With the way my school works, you take core art classes and then apply for entrance into the BFA (bachelor of fine arts) program of your choice rather than submitting a portfolio for review when you apply for the school. I was wondering what happens if your portfolio is rejected. Will you be dropped from the program? Will you have to find a new major? Will you have to retake the classes and submit a new portfolio to continue in the program? How does it work? Thanks ^_^
