  1. Mary says:

Many health careers are held at cc which actually do quiet well (greater than 20 dollars an hour, higher depending on the area of the country) RRT, xray tech, RN, PTA, COTA, dental hygiene, surgical asst, optical, etc.

It’s not really about the degree that makes you the money, it’s your career path. However, the higher education you have correlates with the more skilled jobs you can pursue, which usually pay more money

You might not get a job, so you can’t guarantee making more money.

  4. Rick says:

Depends on the kind of work you will be doing. I know people in sales with no college at all that make unbelievable amounts of money. I also know people with masters degrees that make very little. That being said an education is best sought after for personal betterment than for having a piece of paper so that you can make more money.

I don’t think it would make you that much more money if you have tons of work experience, but if you are someone just starting out it can give you a headstart above others who haven’t. See the thing about education is not the amount of money but, the ability to make money. The more education a person has the more options they have, especially someone that is young.

A high school diploma will get you to customer service jobs (retail, restaurants, telemarketing, janitorial jobs, babysitting, working at a gas station, etc). If that’s what you want to do, then you’d be happy, but will make close to the minimum wage allowed by Federal Laws.

A Community College degree will get you specialized jobs. Like someone else said, the health care field has many technical jobs which you may be trained for in a Community College. You’lll be able to make anywhere from $10/hour to $40/hour to start (depending on what you choose for a career).

Yes, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates dropped out of college and became billionaires. But we all know why… Bill is a wiz on computer and knew how to manage/profit from his product… and Oprah started as a talk show host (working for someone else) and then, when she had enough money, she bought the rights to her show and became her own boss…. That’s how she got so rich.

Unless you’re the next Bill or Oprah, I suggest you get (at least) a Community College degree.

    Good luck to you!
