What kind of things can I do to help TBI clients?

Category: KTVLair.ComGuest @ 10:33 pm

I work with people who have a traumatic brain injury and would like to do something with them that’s productive. Do you have any ideas for me? A co-worker and I talked about little things like playing card games or doing crafts. What else can we do in the evenings to be helpful to them? We have 3 men in a residential home where we work so it’s very nice for them but we want to offer them something constructive too. Any ideas?

  1. SimplyMeInTheWorld says:

playing cards is productive?–are you trying to enter them in a poker tournament?…or sell their crafts at flea markets?

when i worked in group homes tehre was a housing plan that had goals for each resident–see if this exists…

step 1–find out what they liked before the injury..

and see if tehy still have an interest now

step 2–find out what they are interested in now

the level of brain injury varies in teh amount opf physical and mental need…

can they communicate adequately–how much movement do they have..

would they like surfing teh net–with help typing if needed

    how olda re they

work on cooking, self care–recreation is fine–like playing cards if taht is what tehy want to do for fun–fun doesn’t hav eto be ‘productive’…

can they understand Deal or No Deal–there is a DVD game available for $5 at a store called 5 below if there are any in yor area–there are also free versions available online

is there anywhere for athletic activities..find a way to play soccer…

    music and dancing…

    tehpossibilities are endless

do yu have access to transport–how about fishing or to local sporting events–even just HS, commnity or college
