How do I write a four-minute speech about strengthening the confidence of students and their work?

Category: KTVLair.Comadmin @ 8:06 pm

I am part of the Future Business Leaders of America. I am in the ninth grade and am working in the Public Speaking I division. I am really clueless about 1) how do I write and memorize a speech in the first place and 2) how am I supposed to strengthen the confidence of students and their work in the speech (that’s one of the goals I chose to write about)?

Here is what FBLA says on one of its sites:

    Goals

    * Develop competent, aggressive business leadership.

    * Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work.

    * Create more interest in and understanding of the American business enterprise. Encourage members in the development of individual projects that contribute to the improvement of home, business and community.

    * Encourage members in the development of individual projects that contribute to the improvement of home, business and community.

    * Develop character, prepare for useful citizenship and foster patriotism.

    * Encourage and practice efficient money management.

    * Encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty.

    * Assist students in the establishment of occupational goals.

    * Facilitate the transition from school to work.

I typed your question into Google and this is what came back:

  2. Danny Sheahan says:

I wasn’t sure what to make of the above answer, (Although I loved the 1984 themed name) so I’ll just ignore that.
    1. How to write and memorize

    a. Just write it!
You’ve written essays before, a speech is just like an essay, except that you will want to have facts, and numbers if you can. That way people know you should be listened to. The only difference between an essay and a speech is that you need to write your speech in a style where you are "talking to your audience"

    b. The Format
I’m sure you’ve written essays with this format, this is also the way you should write a speech.
Hook (Usually a question) i.e Did you know that the the FBLA has helped 9999 students in the course of…
Into: Tell them about the three points you will present
Thesis: What you want to teach them
    Point 1
    Point 2
    Point 3
Conclusion (Tie it back to the hook you used in the beginning)

    c. To memorize, you should read it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again!
Soon your mind wil become acquainted with the sentences.

    2. How to make the speech (Long answer huh)
Note: (I’m not sure exactly what your speech is on, I’m guessing you are trying to tell FBLA Students to continue in their learning of speech?)
    a. Find three points. Maybe something like:
    1. Speeches benefit brains,
    2. Speeches help people in many real life situations
    3. You will always have the opportunity to use these skill in life

    b. GET A GOOD HOOK, you really need to make the people think when you open the speech. Find a really intriguing question, or a really amazing fact, and get people to widen their eyes in thought, or in surprise. They’ll be with you for the rest of the time.

    Hope this helps

Just google the question. I’m working on writing a speech for FBLA as well, I typed in ""transition from work to school" and "facilitate the transition from work to school" and just looked at a few of the top sites that looked good.

The website for FBLA also says one OR more of the topics so if you can relate a few of the topics it helps to make your speech longer.
